India – The Mission Field

India is located in Southern Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, between Burma and Pakistan, and is slightly more than one-third the size of the US. It has an estimated population of over a billion people making it the most populous country in the world next to China.  The population of the country of India is greater than the population of all continents except Asia, of which it is a part.  With almost 1/6 of the world’s population, it is only 2.3% Christian.

India is part of the 10/40 Window (10 degrees north to 40 degrees north of the equator) where 97 percent of the world’s unreached people live. Although 97 percent of the unreached people live there, less than .05 percent of total church resources go to reach those people. India contains one fourth (412 million) of the 1.6 billion people on earth who have never heard the Gospel.  Many die each day never hearing about God’s love for them or the Savior that gave His life to save them. We are told by God that it is His wish that no one perish, and Jesus’ last command to the church is to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. There is much to be done, and there are those willing to take on the task.
